Paradigm shift, sometimes known as extraordinary science or revolutionary science, is the term first used by Thomas Kuhn in his influential 1962book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions to describe a change in basic assumptions within the ruling theory of science. It is in contrast to his idea of normal science. [from wiki]
認識典範轉移(Paradigm-Modifing)這個term,是在Bostrom: Research in Creativity and GSS(1998)中看到,述說著Group Support System如何評估支援創造力點子系統,所產生點子的創新程度。原來,科學哲學家Thomas S. Kuhn 在1962年的著作就已提出在科學創新上出現的Paradigm Shift,用以說明典範轉移常來自於根本假設的改變。

不管是在考試中或工作上,當我們碰到問題苦惱時,有時會突然有種靈感湧現,天外忽然飛來一筆,”Alha! 我想到了!”,一個新𩓙的idea或解題技巧,眼前的問題,有如苞丁解牛般,迎刃而解。通常,這種無法言語的快感~“不知為何,就靈光乍現而突然想通了”~就是我們常說的“靈感“。而靈感又常常跟創意劃上等號,所以,在創造力研究上(通常是心理學家),有相當大的一段時間,在研究個人心智中的靈感如何湧現,或什麼因素影響個人創意的多寡。

沒想到, 因為要去國科會展場, 替研究團隊展示研究成果, 卻意外地看到了一堆以前工作時的廠商…有種又近又遠的感覺, 從業界跳到了學術圈, 從作設計變成了寫paper, 多了種看事情的角度, 對"數位學習"也有了全然不同的解釋…硬要說比較喜歡那一塊呢…還真難選…

National Association of Research in Science Teaching (NARST) - 是一美國科學教育組織,專門研究如何提升科學主題的教學品質與學習效益,每年會定期舉辨全美科教年會,邀請所有在這相關領域的學者進行交流與討論,將在今年3月舉行。
我的畢業論文,A Collaborative Support Tool for Problem-Solving Ability: Idea Storming Cube,雖然論文中講的是協同式的創造力學習,跟科教主題只有一些些相關,但還是幸運地被大會接受,將在巴爾地摩發表。

不管如何,總對得起自己了。兩年前的決定,換得無數個迎接日出的夜晚,和今天的論文口試。 其實作研究或甚寫論文,並沒有想像中的可怕,可怕的是自己的邏輯不清和知識的淺薄。每每提出新想法,在和老師們討論後,才發現自己說話或對事物的概念總是磨糊說不清楚…

[Tech] Pattern Recognition for Learning Support

藉group meeting paper present的機會,找了篇machine learning在數位學習上相關的paper,Unsupervised and Supervised Machine Learning in User Modeling for Intelligent Learning Environments,IUI 2007,作者是Saleema Amershi, Dept. of Computer Science, University of British Columbia的研究生。它相關的研究也在ITS 2006上曾發表過,Automatic Recognition of Learner Groups in ELE (Amershi, S., ITS 2006),Using Feature Selection and Unsupervised Clustering to Identify Affective Expressions in Educational Games (Amershi, S., ITS 2006 workshop on Motivational and Affective Issues)。而使用的ML方法,是很基礎的k-means,但卻一再被accept,我想它應該還是有某種程度新穎的觀點或應用,還是值得一看。

Notes on GEOFFREY I.WEBB, MICHAEL J. PAZZANI, and DANIEL BILLSUS, Machine Learning for User Modeling, User Modeling and User-Adapted Interaction, 11:19-29, 2001.
Concept drift 是個有趣的概念,文中指出User Modeling是個非常動態的過程,因為user的attributes會隨著時間改變,model形狀或比重,也需隨之更新。例如: 當MLB季後賽時,user對棒球的新聞較有興趣,當世界盃足球賽開打時,user又開始對足球的新聞有興趣。這是個不難理解的過程,但對於會輸入過去大 量的training data,來預測未來的machine learning方法來說,「時間」是個不好解決的敵人。
